Delivered by JBL Limited ~ Jane Bellion is a qualified Makaton trainer with considerable experience of using Makaton with people of different ages and abiltiies. She is also a regional tutor and has been delivering Makaton Language Programme to a range of practitioners.
- Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people with communication difficulties.
- With Makaton, children and young people can communicate straight away using signs and symbols. For those who have experiecnes the frustration of being unable to communicate meaningfully or effectively, Makaton really can help. Makaton takes away the frustration and enables individuals to connect with other people and the world around them, opening up all kinds of possibilities.
- Using Makaton signs can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear. Using Makaton symbols can help epople who have limited speech and those who cannot sign, or prefer not to.
Our course will run by a highly experienced Makaton Regional Tutor and singing Tutor. Course Manuals (1-4), Pocket Signs 1 and Pocket Symbols 1 are included in the cost of the course.
A certificate of attendance will be issued upon completion of the course. (Participants must complete 12 hours training across both days).
The foundation workshop provides a detailed introduction to Makaton and combines a practical approach with theory and technical infromation. Lectures cover research into sign and symbol use, symbol design themes, the use and purpose of Makaton and an overview of alternative systems of communcation. You will learn the signs and symbols of stages 1-4 and Additional of the Core Vocabulary.
